Amazon has the PIXMA MP530 on sale for $194 $160 with no mail-in rebate and free shipping. The MP530 is a new printer, so it’s not a gigantic savings, but you also save some money by not having to pay tax. With this printer, it amounts to about a $15 savings versus purchasing it in a local store.

The PIXMA MP530 is an all-in-one printer that Canon rates at 29 ppm in black and 19 ppm in color. It has a 30-sheet automatic document feeder and a 150-page fax memory. The scanning resolution is 2400 x 1200 and it can print a 4 x 6 in about 51 seconds.

You can find Canon PIXMA MP530 ink cartridges on our site.

In addition to their three new PIXMA all-in-one printers, Canon is also releasing a new inkjet and a new compact photo printer.

PIXMA iP4300 - a $100 photo printer that replaces the popular PIXMA iP4200. Canon rates it at 30 pagers per minute for black and 24 for color. The resolution goes up to 9600 x 2400 for printing and the drop size for the ink is one picoliter, meaning this printer should produce some finely detailed prints.

Pixma mini260 - a $200 compact photo printer that Canon says can produce a 4 x 6 in about a minute. It has the same resolution as the iP4300 and a 2.5″ LCD. It has memory card readers and PictBridge capability, and you can also buy an $80 Bluetooth adaptor for wireless printing.

Both these models should be available in early September.

Canon announced that they are releasing three new photo all-in-one printers, one new photo printer and one new inkjet. Here are the three new all-in-one photo printers:

PIXMA MP510 - is a $150 printer that is rated at 25 pages per minute for black and 17 for color. It has a resolution of 4800 x 1200 and uses a four-ink system, which means no photo black cartridges. It also has a 1.9″ LCD and all the usual features to connect directly to a camera.

PIXMA MP600 - is a $199 printer that is faster than the MP510, as Canon rates it at 30 ppm for black and 24 for color. The resolution is 9600 x 2400 and it has a 2.5″ LCD. It also has a higher scanning resolution than the MP510 and its nozzles have a finer control over the ink. This model supports auto-duplexing and uses a five-ink system.

PIXMA MP810 - is a $300 printer that is slightly faster and more precise than the MP600. The only real difference is its improved scanning capabilities. This machine also uses a five-ink system. Canon claims that this printer can produce a 4 x 6 print in 21 seconds. This seems exceptionally fast, especially since most of the time printer manufacturers are happy to boast that their machines can produce a 4 x 6 in 60 seconds.

Canon is touting a new feature they call the Easy-Scroll Wheel interface. They say it allows customers to “access document operations at a glance, including the copy, scan, or print functions by simply rotating the wheel to the desired feature and pressing the “OK” button. ” So basically it sounds like the intereface from an iPod. This feature is only available on the MP600 and MP810.

The MP510 and MP600 will be available in September and the MP810 should be available in October.

Amazon has the PIXMA MP460 on sale for $92. This is just a regular sale with no mail-in rebate and as always, it could end at any time. The retail price on this printer is $130 and it’s only been out for a few months, so this is a pretty good deal.

The PIXMA MP460 is an all-in-one photo printer that is rated at 22 pages per minute for black and 17 for color. It has a resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 and Canon claims that it can print a “borderless photo-lab quality prints with dry-to-the-touch precision” 4 x 6 picture in 52 seconds. Neat.

Recently PC World looked over their ratings and came out with an updated list of what they considered to be the best inkjets on the market. Here they are:

1. HP Deskjet 5940
2. HP Deskjet 5440
3. Canon PIXMA iP4200
4. Epson Stylus C88
5. HP Deskjet 5740
6. Canon PIXMA iP1600
7. HP Deskjet 6840
8. HP Business Inkjet 1200d
9. Lexmark Z735
10. HP Business Inkjet 2300

Before you wonder why this list looks a little strange, we will point out that these are strictly inkjet printers; there are no photo printers or multifunctions machines on this list. Therefore, you get strange models like the HP Business Inkjet 1200d, which probably makes up about 1% of all printers sold. These days, very few models are officially only inkjets. Almost every inkjet model, no matter how crappy, is marketed as a photo printer. Add to that the amount of multifunction printers that manufacturers are making these days and you are left with a small percentage of standard inkjets.

They rate the number one printer, the Deskjet 5940, as “very good”, even though we have heard some feedback that says otherwise. The 5940 and the Deskjet 5440 are definitely popular models, but the 5440 seems to get more positive feedback. Having the PIXMA iP4200 on there makes sense, because that is a very popular and very well-reviewed printer. Other than that, the whole bottom half of the list is pretty suspect.

One of the rare complaints that users have with Canon printers has to do with the waste tank in the printer. When you run the cleaning utilities, the printer uses ink to clean out the nozzles. The printer then dumps the excess ink from cleaning onto an absorbing pad. Eventually, the pad will become “full” and the printer will lock you out. It is possible for people to clean these pads themselves, but officially there is no way for someone to unlock the printer even if the pads are cleaned. According to the Canon manual, only a Canon technician can enter in a secret code to unlock the printer. Obviously, having to take your printer to a certified Canon technician is either highly annoying/inconvenient or downright impossible. So, some people have come up with their own ways to try to outwit their printers. Here is one method from fixyourownprinter.com:

1: Power off printer
2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
3: Hold POWER and release RESUME
4: Press RESUME twice
5: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange.
6: Press Power to set data

We have seen a couple different variations on this code, but they all basically follow the same steps. There are a couple different methods in this forum and on other sites on the Web.

Amazon has the PIXMA iP1600 on sale for only $29 with free shipping and no rebate to mess around with either. Granted, this printer usually only retails for $40-$50, but still, you can’t really beat $29 for a new Canon.

The PIXMA iP1600 is a photo printer that is rated at 19 pages per minute for black prints and 16 ppm for color. It has a resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 and it can produce a 4 x 6 in a little over a minute. Other than not having memory card slots, the iP1600 doesn’t really skimp anywhere. The print speed and resolution are pretty standard and it can take all different sizes of paper.

If you already own the PIXMA iP1600, let us know what you think about it. If you are looking for PIXMA iP1600 cartridges, you can find those on our site.

Appropriately, Amazon has the top-ranked PIXMA iP4200 on sale for $80. We just mentioned this printer yesterday in looking at the top sellers on Amazon. In addition to being the top seller, it also has a 4.5/5 star rating from 71 reviews.

The PIMA iP4200 features two-sided printing and a resolution up to 9600 x 2400, which is higher than almost every other printer in this price range. This machine has the features of a expensive photo printer without the price. Since this is an Amazon sale we’re not sure how long it will last for, but the good part is that there’s no mail-in rebate.

On the same day that they released three new PIXMA inkjet printers, Canon also released three new all-in-one printers. The new models are the PIXMA MP530, PIXMA MP460, PIXMA MP180 and the PIXMA MP160. These new machines feature some sleek designs (see the picture below) and some new technology, including Canon’s Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology for improved copies. No idea what that means.

PIXMA MP530 - seems to be the next step after the popular MP830. This model will retail at $200 and will feature an automatic document feeder along with two separate black ink cartridges. This is the most expensive of the four new all-in-ones, as it is geared more towards business users.

PIXMA MP460 - a $130 photo printer which has a resolution up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi, can produce ink drops as small as two picoliters, and can print a 4 x 6 picture in just under a minute. It also features direct printing from cameras and memory cards. In other words, it’s exactly like every other mid-range photo printer on the market.

PIXMA MP180 - a $100 photo all-in-one. There really isn’t much to say about this model, other than that it is rated at 22 pages per minute for black, which isn’t bad for a Canon all-in-one that’s this cheap.

PIXMA MP160 - the bargain of the bunch at $90, which is about as cheap as Canon gets for a new printer. It looks to be basically the same as the MP180, only Canon doesn’t mention printing full-size pictures in the description for this printer.

Canon also announced the release of a new type of paper, their Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss. This paper “provides a warm luster or pearl finish that closely resembles a traditional retail print.” Neat.
