Brother

On Tuesday Brother announced the release of the MFC-845cw, a color all-in-one printer with built-in wireless and also a cordless phone. Brother says this model is the first of its kind to offer this combination of features.

The performance of the MFC-845cw is pretty standard, as Brother rates it at 27 ppm for black 22 ppm for color printing. It has a resolution of up to 6000 x 1200, which is pretty good for an all-in-one machine, and it has a 2.5″ LCD. It also has a 10-page auto document feeder and a digital answering machine that holds up to 29 minutes of messages from telemarketers. The cordless phone that comes with this printer is a 5.8GHZ handset, and Brother says that since it is 5.8GHZ it won’t interfere with the wireless connection on the printer itself. Brother is gracious enough to offer additional handsets (the MFC-845cw can handle a total of four) for the low price of $90.

The MFC-845cw will use LC-51 ink cartridges. It will be priced at $250 and should hit stores next month.

Brother Announces a Color Inkjet All-in-One with Digital Cordless Handset to Provide an Ultimate Wireless Solution [Press Release]

Brother announced three printers today, the MFC-5460cn, the MFC-5860c and the MFC-3360c. All three of these printers are all-in-one models which will use Brother’s legendary Innobellaâ„¢ ink cartridges and photo paper. Innobella inks were recently introduced by Brother as their answer to Vivera, Ultrachrome etc. Basically they aren’t really much different from Brother’s current inks and you would probably only notice the difference if you were a professional using their most expensive paper and you examined all your prints with a 1000x magnifying glass. These printers will all use LC-51 ink cartridges.

The MFC-5460cn and the MFC-5860cn are both rated by Brother at 30 ppm for black and 25 for color. Both machines include a fax machine and can print up to 6000 x 1200, which is a pretty good resolution for a multifunction printer. They have the standard media card slots and PictBridge capability for direct printing. The MFC-5860cn is the fancier model, so it includes a dual paper tray for a 350-sheet capacity.

The MFC-3360c is a more standard all-in-one. It features print speeds up to 25ppm for black and 20ppm for color as well as the same 6000 x 1200 resolution as the other two machines. Brother doesn’t mention how much that printer will be, but the MFC-5460cn will be $150 and the MFC-5860cn will be $180. These printers should be in stores in October.

Brother announced today that they are releasing three new color inkjets to replacing existing models. The new all-in-ones are the MFC-240c, the MFC-440cn and the MFC-665cw. They are all flatbed all-in-ones and they will all retail for under $200. Brother said these machines have all been designed to have a small footprint, thus we have to assume they are pretty sleek.

The the print speeds that Brother lists are 25 pages per minute black and 20 ppm color for MFC-240c and the MFC-440cn, and then up to 27 ppm black and 22 ppm color for the MFC-665cw. They don’t list the specifics on the resolutions for each machine, only that it goes up to 6000 x 1200 dpi. It’s possible that is the resolution for all three machines, but we’re assuming it’s just for the most expensive one. Also, the MFC-240c and MFC-440cn are network-ready and the MFC-665cw has built-in wireless.

All three models use the standard Brother four-ink system, but they will use the new LC-51 “Innobella” technology from Brother. What the heck does Inobella mean? Who knows. The closest translation we could find was in Italian it means “beautiful hymn.” Regardless, it just means that Brother has finally jumped on board with everyone else who has already named their ink. HP has Vivera, Canon has ChromaLife and Epson has UltraChrome - it’s only fair Brother should also have a strange name for their stuff.

You can get more specifics, like how the MFC-665cw has a digital answering machine that stores up to 29 minutes, in the full press release below.
