Dell 720 No Good?
Today we had a complaint from one of our customers regarding the Dell 720 printer. We sent out a monthly newsletter that listed our most popular cartridge (the HP 56) and our most popular printer (the Dell 720). The HP 56 popularity is based on sales and the Dell 720 popularity is based on how many people viewed that page. So the issue was that the customer took that as sort of an endorsement from us because we listed the printer as popular, but didn’t make any mentions of its shortcomings.
My response was we were just listing the data, not saying the Dell 720 was good. I then cited some past examples of how we have always advised against buying Dell/Lexmark printers due to their high ink costs and quality issues. But at the same time, it was a fair complaint since we like to try to help our customers get the right printer. We see ourselves as not just an ink supplier, but also as a resource for printer-related questions/concerns.
Going back to the main issue…the Dell 720 probably does stink. Dell inkjets are automatically a pain due to the ink costs, but most of them are entry-level models not known for their longevity. Now, we’ve heard lots of feedback about how no one really likes their Dell printers, but is there anyone out there who disagrees? We’re curious as to whether or not there are people out there who are actually like Dells.
So, if anyone has any feedback (on the Dell 720 or otherwise), let us know.

I’ve purchased 6 Dell printers for my business over the last year and a half. With each and every purchave I have received a Dell 720 printer. I actually used my first printer, but the print quality has horrible, it made some strange creaking sounds when printing, and the ink ran out to fast. So, then I went to replace the ink. It took me about 30 seconds from the time I saw the price for the cartridges to yank the USB cord out of my computer and drop the printer in the trash. What a piece of garbage, and an expenseive piece of garbage when you factor in the cost of ink.
Now I have 5 completey sealed and boxed Dell printers sitting on a shelf in my storage room and a very low opinion of Dell printers. So yes, I agree with you - The Dell 720 printer does stink.

I’ve had my 720 for some time now. It has been a solid printer for me. Yes the ink is expensive, but there are alternatives to paying Dell an arm and a leg.
I use at home for printing articles of interest I find on the internet as well as for printing some work related materials. It is definitely not a work horse printer (I save that kind of stuff for my older HP Laserjets. Those things are amazing), but it does well for the person who just prints a little bit every day or every few days. I like it and have recommended it to those I know that don’t print a lot, but do need something reliable and of decent quality.

Their ink is a huge problem!!!!! I have the next model up, a 920, and I absolutely hate it. In fact I want to take an axe to it and hack it into a million pieces. Why? Because not only does it run out of ink when the level still reads half full, but there isn’t anything in the cartridges. I barely do any printing before I’m out of ink again. The company had no comment when I told them about this, just acted like I was an idiot, and preferred not to be bothered. That is always how they act when a customer has a problem. And they ask stupid, insulting questions, such as “Is it plugged in?” They know darn well that they don’t put enough ink in the cartridges, and they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I’m so sick and tired of spending money on ink for this piece cr*p. Who does Dell think they’re kidding? They continue to make unreasonable amounts of money off of you after you purchase their printers! You will go broke buying ink. If I had known, I would NOT own one. And I’ll never own one again.
