Get Rid of Spam
Consumer Reports says that over the past two years, consumers have spent $7.8 billion to repair or replace computers infected with spyware or viruses. That number seems ridiculously high, unless it’s just a result of loads of people chucking their computers and buying new ones. Maybe it means that people are paying too much to have some technician run an anti-spyware program on their computer. Well, that can be avoided.
Here are three things you can do to save $7.8 billion dollars:
1. Get AVG Free. This is a small, simple virus program that is effective without bogging down your system like Norton or McAfee. It is also 1000% less annoying.
2. Don’t open strange emails.
3. Get Firefox. This is hands-down the best way to avoid getting spyware or viruses on your computer. Also, once you get the hang of it and learn all the features like tabbed browsing, you’ll wonder how you ever used Internet Explorer in the first place.

I downloaded Firefox on the reccomendation of a co-worker. Absolutely love it, and yes, I do wonder how I ever used Internet Explorer for all those years. I’ve never heard of AVG before, but I’ll have to give it a try.

I absolutely HATE spam, spyware, viruses, etc. I it is getting to the point where I hate using my computer. Open my email and have 15 messages - only one is from anyone I know. My computer gets slower by the day thanks to all the spyware, and the super delux version of Norton AntiVirus I have to install to keep it all away. But yet, I get more and more. What to do?

One of the best ways to prevent spam is to pick an email address that is uncommon. The bulk of spam is sent by programs that automatically generate common email name formats along with popular internet service providers. So it is likely that JohnSmith@aol.com is an actual customer (if they have not changed their email address because of too much spam!) because the name is common and it is a popular internet service provider. It would be much better for John Smith to choose John_Smith_32@aol.com because the likelyhood of the program generating this email address is much more unlikely and therfore John will receive much less spam.
Hope this helps

Yeah!!!!! Great advice. It cost me $200. to get the “Nerds” over to get all the bugs out of my computer. They had to take the processor overnight, and two of the things they did for me right off the bat was get me on the Mozilla Firefox internet access and the AVG Free antivirus program. It sped my computer up immediately and it make a huge difference. Your article supported what these computer repair guys told me. Try it! You’ll LOVE it!

So much helpful information. I have been fighting the battle for some time, and spending the money too. I think I have spent the $200 a few times. Thanks for the tips. If anyone has anymore, please leave them. I will be sure to be back to check.

I am one of what Lois Hamilton refers to as “the nerds”.
There is many ways of speeding up a slow running computer like anti syware software eg…….
Spyware doctor
and Spybot search and destroy (freeware)
I highly recommend downloading and then running these software’s.
For an antivirus programme i use CA’s E-Trust antivirus its widley regarded as one of the best but if you want a free one avg is an excellent programme and works well.
I also recommend the use of thunderbird made by mozilla (the guys behind firefox)

Thunderbird is an excellant email programme with a junk filter built in.
And you can never underestimate the power of a good old defragg.
And if none of these tips work i would suggest you either a reinstall or upgrade.
Or if you wanted to go all out you could allways bin the pc give me a shout and get get me to make you a new one lol.
I hope this has helped someone.

Spam is a contentious thing and although many people detest it, spam is a good teacher. It teaches us how to go about email campaigns without landing ourselves in the spam bins. It teaches us the art of good email marketing. Spam teaches us by showing the errors that other have commited. A not so bad thing after all
