Epson Settlement Update
A number of people have been asking how to redeem their benefits online at the Epson store. Apparently no one is really having much luck using their code online, and there may be a reason why. Ron, a commenter, left this note in the original post about the settlement:
I got this back from Epson about the e-store code:
Per this website, the settlement benefits are not distributed until AFTER the court considers final approval on the settlement. The settlement benefits will be available no sooner than the late fall of 2006. Thus, any Epson Store codes will not be activated until after the final settlement
Guess we’ll have to wait.
The court will not be making a final decision as to whether or not the settlement is fair until August 15, 2006. On the official site for the settlement, this is one of the frequently asked questions:
When can I expect to receive my benefits?
Benefits will be available after the Court has given final approval and all appeals have expired.
So it does seem like the discount will not work until sometime after August 15th. Another commenter pointed out that on the official settlement site, there is a page where you can sign up to receive notification when your E-Store code is active or the other benefits or ready. You can receive notification via email or a postcard. You can sign up for that reminder at this page.

I like to received the credit when the settlement is completed
October 7th, 2006 at 4:21 pm
I filed for the settlement but as of today 10/7/2006 I have never received any info on the ink credit from epson. I bough & registered my printer cx7800 in jan 2006. What can I do to ensure I get some sort of info on the credit and how to apply it.
November 20th, 2006 at 6:03 pm
It is past Nov.13. Has anyone been able to use your e-store code? I cannot figure out how to do this. Any help is appreciated.
November 26th, 2006 at 4:43 pm
My understanding is you enter it where it asks for a coupon code when you order.
When you do that it will tell you if what you entered is valid.
Proceed carefully, you could easily order merchandise before verifying the code was accepted. So before you ‘Approve’ the order make sure the total includes the discount.
But so far it does not look like the settlement code is being accepted yet.
December 1st, 2006 at 12:29 pm
Well it’s December 1st and it’s still not working!
December 4th, 2006 at 5:12 pm
I signed up a long time ago for this settlement. I never recieved any code# Were they supposed to mail it or what?
Thank you
December 6th, 2006 at 7:15 am
Has anyone been able to use this code yet? If so, how did you do it? Thanks.
December 12th, 2006 at 1:39 pm
I finally called the Administrator-
(877-506-4031) only to find that the codes will not be activated until the end of the appeal period. Of course, they couldn’t tell me when that end date would be !! Is this something I will have to pass to my unborn grandchildren ? I am writing bacck to the Administrator to the effect that this is
unfair, in that we have won the suit. Has Epson appealed this - I thought they had approved this settlement, therefore an appeal would not be possible
December 15th, 2006 at 6:17 am
Well that seals it for me. Im sitting on a wothless 5200. My new canon and my two old hp are plugging along fine. NO MORE EPSON FOR ME
December 16th, 2006 at 1:21 pm
I feel your pain, we have an older and bulky UMAX scanner I was hoping to supplant with a slim Epson model. But Canon has always been my first choice, it is only the discount that is having me wait.
Maybe Epson is hoping to stretch this out meanwhile lose more customer interest.
I have an Epson C82 sitting in closet that needs all 4 cartridges replaced, it was at the point I bought a $45 Canon Bubble Jet that works fine on generic ink tanks, and after almost 2 years is still functioning optimally.
All our B&W forms, letters, etc. handled with a discounted $80 Brother laser. Even that did not cost more than the original C82.

It is about time! I received a letter in the mail saying my code is finally activated. The rest of you keep an eye out, should be coming soon!

I received 2 letters with codes today. The letters state that the code “Will be activated once the appeal period has expired”. The Wait Continues . . .

By now Webster has added “Epson Settlement” to it’s dictionary.
Next to it a picture of a dentist pulling a tooth! LOL
January 9th, 2007 at 7:29 am
I just checked epsonsettlement.com today, still no change. I’ve had a code since last May but the Epson store still does not accept it. I have not received any recent mailings. Not going to order any ink for this printer until I gets my $45 credit.
January 11th, 2007 at 8:47 am
bye bye Epson you had your chance. have not heard or recieved anythig from you pertaining to settlement.
January 11th, 2007 at 10:50 am
Nice to know that I’m not the only disgruntled Epson customer trying to obtain my settlement credit at the Epson E-Store. All this time I just thought that my computer illiteracy was showing. It’s about time to make a call to my state’s attorney general’s office. They love to take on this sort of bull@%&*.
January 13th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
It looks like they have appealed the decision and the settlement so it looks like the lawyers will win this one. The legal system sure does a good job protecting the consumer, doesn’t it?
January 15th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
I will never sell a epson printer again. I have eight e-store codes and they are usless. I used to like epson for its print quality but now use lexmarx or hp for my customers. The problems i had with customers was not worth the price i could get for epson.Im have purchaced some large format printers and i have a room full of returns. I guess i am screwed by epson.
January 19th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
EPSON SUCKS
January 19th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
EPSON REALLY SUCKS
February 2nd, 2007 at 1:13 am
I wait and wait for this meager $45 credit. I purchased many a new ink cartridge for this printer knowing full well that this was way shorter than the life of any printer cartridge I’ve ever used, thus flushing way more than $45 down the toilet. I dont even use this printer anymore because I would just continue to throw more money away in the long run. I got a new one before I even received the settlement notice in the mail. I would be coming home from Staples with a new ink cartridge in one color so I could print out a research paper for school and run out of another color before I was done! I swear this was done purposely to sell more ink. On my model you couldn’t even print out a regular black and white text document if the ink levels were too low in cyan or magenta. I’m all over the place buying color cartridges constantly when I only use my printers for term papers (b+w only).
Now, they have to keep us waiting on this credit that is pittance for them, considering they get to pay manufacturer and/or wholesale prices on everything people will buy with them if we every do get this credit. No more Epson garbage for me ever. I took a look at the E-store when i first heard about the settlement and decided I was gonna just buy blank CD-R’s because $45 doesnt go anywhere near as far as it does compared to ordering from sites like Newegg and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna get involved with more epson merchandise. Now I just wonder if the credit can be used to cover shipping and handling because I dont want to sink one more cent into this debacle….
February 27th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
I am 80 years old and have a CX7800 printer .. It is my second Epson printer and I am still waiting for my $45.00 credit.. I have my code # … Maybe I won’t live long enough to see the $45.00.
March 7th, 2007 at 5:50 am
Had 3 epsons. 2 NG anymore. Spent a lot of money for new carts and still wouldnt Print. Heads get clogged too quickly.
Class action needed for the printers design also not just for the cartridge issue.
This INK tank design was supposed to save you money not having to replace the whole cartridge and head.
So now you have to try new carts and then you have replace the whole printer and lose $60 in new carts!
March 12th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
when are we going to get our credit for the ink cartridges…It is a shame the way a big company like Epson…can treat us loyal customers who have bought many of your products……GIVE US OUR CREDIT…..
March 25th, 2007 at 11:34 am
This is just ridiculous. I hate to just throw away a printer/scanner that works fine, but this is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for a measly $45. They’ve got to be spending more in legal fees than it would cost to just dole out the settlement.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:54 am
I’d like to know who appealed the settlement? A settlement is just that, all parties agree. By the time this gets resolved no one will own an Epson (mine died a year ago and I’ll never buy another). What are we going to cash in on at the Epson store? Cartridges we can drain the ink from for our paint ball guns? Mmmm DuraBrite colored kitties, just kidding but it might keep em out of the garden.
No wonder everyone hates attorneys, their PR is atrocious. Why don’t they notify us once in a while on what’s going on. They have our e-mail addresses from their e-store notification site.
Prime example on what makes Capitalism so great. The consumer always gets it in the end. “Caveat Emptor”
April 12th, 2007 at 5:36 am
Epson, you should be ashamed of yourself. I have bought Epson products over the last 12 years and you treat your customers so shabby. No update on the settlement or information to many of the loyal customers. I like your product but will not by purchasing another one when replacement time comes. Why even mail out those settlement questionairs? So much for your past sterling reputation.
April 13th, 2007 at 12:17 am
Come on Epson. The final date for sending in claims is 6 months ago. You have settled since then. You are paying so little to the claimaints as opposed to going after the people who are duplicating your cartridges and paying those lawyers big bucks!!!!! You sure are taking your time with us. That is disgusting. Maybe you need the money more than we do?????
April 16th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Yet another proof that class action suites are just another way for attorneys to make millions, while accomplishing nothing for the public.

Settlement Update
(April 26, 2007)
The activation date for codes has been set for June 20, 2007. All activation notices will be issued during the first weeks of May 2007. Requests for additional activation notices are no longer available.
May 5th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
Has anyone received a mail from “Settlement Administrator” with a subject “Notice of E-Store Code Activation”? I might have accidentally deleted it as it went into my junk mail folder. If you did, can you please tell me if it had an “activation code” and instructions on how to use it? I will have to request them to resend it if they did.
Thanks

Hallaluah, I finally got my 2 checks today for my 2 Epson Printers. They also have the codes but I don’t know if I will be using those. I hope everyone else got their settlement or will be getting it soon. I just hope I can still find a supplier that has the generic cartridges that work just fine.
May 29th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
P.S. I do love my Stylus Photo 820 printers. Just really got tired of waiting for this settlement to be finished and get my checks.
June 3rd, 2007 at 6:17 pm
I had three epsons I chise one to be the $45 cash and the other 2 $45 store credit. Is there some where that I can check for sure what I submitted? I recieved codes for credit but something for cash. How can I check to make sure they got the other on?
June 19th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
So I had 5 different Epson printers. Received all my checks and codes. Codes said they would work on 6/20, just tried them all, they did. Bought ink with 4 of the coupons, so only $3 each for shipping and then a bluetooth adapter for $20, not too shabby. I get to pay for these with the money from the checks, so that means this cost me nothing and still had money left over. Thanks!
June 20th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
used mine today to order the epson 4490 scanner. Combined it with the current discount. Got my scanner for $53 Not to bad eh ? Waiting on them to process my order however , the status just says “Order is under review”
i wonder what that means . After this i don’t think i will ever buy a epson printer. They make some of the best scanners however.
June 30th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Got my new ink today. Everything worked out great!
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:45 pm
I have 14 Epson Store Codes and just found out that I cannot use them together ($630 in credits). Instead the Epson Store limits me to a single $45 credit per purchase. Problem is shipping to Hawaii (even for a one ink cartridge) is $13. So it would be $41.45 per ink cartridge. RIDICULOUS! I am a loyal Epson customer who owns 14 Epson printers and this is what I get. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!
Has anyone else succeeded in using multiple store codes on an order?
July 3rd, 2007 at 11:49 pm
I got my notice, but, I do not remember ever getting a code. How do I get my code?
July 4th, 2007 at 7:06 am
I received 3 codes for 3 different printers and chose to receive the store credits. I tried to combine but was unsuccessful on the Epson store website. Called Epson and talked to the “presidents assistant”. She said that the website would not allow combining. I explained this was a settlement and not a discount and nowhere in the lawsuit settlement was it stated that the amounts could not be combined. She essentially said too bad. I havent given up yet!
July 16th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
I remember registering like a year or two ago… but I did not get anything from epson. Do they send it only by e-mail?
August 1st, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Epson does not distribute the activation codes. The Settlement Administrator does.
I personally submitted claims for 5 covered printers. I received no code nor check so I called the number above.
I finally got a return call in which the Administrator said I have credit for one printer since Epsons Owner registrations didn’t remember all my printers. He would mail me my code(s) again. This kind of problem is not uncommon, apparently.
Now we need a class action to get the correct proceeds!
August 4th, 2007 at 5:18 am
Hey Rusty H… Nice reading you have some good news on your code… I got an email and NO code… how did you contact the Administrator? Tele etc.
Thanks!
Dennis

Anybody care to share the PROCESS of how they used their codes? By that I mean: I have a printed code from Rust Consulting. According to this folder i recieved at least a year ago i needed to do nothing if I was satisfied with the $45 E-Store credit. I want to apply it toward yet another piece of Epson Junk. Where, under what portion of the store were you able to enter this 10 digit code?
Thanks

I received the Epson Store credit for $45. Ordered photo paper for $35. had to put $3 on my credit card for shipping. Not bad…just put the code # in the discount box at check out.
September 14th, 2007 at 7:42 am
I got frustrated. Finally ordered it through Epson at 800-873-7766 and pushed “0″ to speak with a real person. They took the order and the code, and it looks like all is well.

I used my settlement to purchase ink. What I got was old unusable ink–produced 2004–that should have been taken off their shelves at least 1 1/2 years ago!! I e-mailed them and was told I had to call their Tech Dept (long distance of course) because I had worked on my printer too long trying to find out why it wouldn’t print and was beyond their 30day guarantee period. Thru Tech I got to Customer Service and convinced them to replace the ink. Unbelievably I received ink that was 2 years older than the original order! Once again thru Tech I spoke to Customer Service this time insisting my money be returned (they won’t with ink purchases) She sent 2 orders of ink and assured me she would see that I got usable ink. Just got that order–production date of the 2nd replacement order was the same as the first replacement–ink produced as early as 2002!!! I’m going to try again tomorrow…They have recouped my settlement plus $28.of my own money and I still have a perfectly good but unusable printer…Everyone might want to check that they are not getting old or refurbished products/equipment with their settlements.
October 16th, 2007 at 8:30 am
I never got anything. I checked with Rust Consulting (the claims administrator) and they conveniently say that they never received a claim form for me. The guy admitted that a lot of people had their claim forms lost in the mail. It seems more than a little suspicious to me that the post office has lost a high percentage of mail just to this one place. It reminds me of the place where they found a pile of rebate requests unopened in the processing center’s dumpster. I’ll bet Rust Consulting gets to keep the excess that they don’t pay out.
February 1st, 2008 at 1:38 pm
My order using my $25 E-credit was placed jan 4 2008 and have not recieved the merchandice. I am now told the code is no longer valid. Is this there way of clearing the codes out of there system?

I’m Paul from Canada, a retired Author. I’ve only been at this about 4
months now, and I’ve hit the ground running. I’m only really getting around
to visiting all the forums now. I still have a lot to learn but I’m getting
there.
All the best,
